I am so proud of my fellow Texans this afternoon. There was a major grass fire burning outside of Benbrook, TX
and there were so many motorists that stopped, gathered whatever they had in their vehicles, and ran to help put
out the fire. There they were, beating at the fire with blankets, coats, etc alongside the highway. Eventually the
fire departments from Benbrook and Cresson arrived and the fires were extinguished, but not before burning an
enormous swath through the area. Residents were told to evacuate but several chose to stay to try to protect their
property. All around the metroplex there were power outages and damage from the high winds and dry grassland.
Governor Rick Perry had two helicopters standing by in Grand Prairie to try to drop water on fires but they were
hampered by the high, high winds.
My husband did remark when we saw the pictures on the news that you would not see people ( up North ) stopping
to help put out a fire. I hope he is wrong.
